Like many men of their generation both Dr. John O. Bell and Dr. Samuel D. Dye were in the military at the same time in
different parts of the world. Shared goals and fate would bring them together to build one of the largest
medical clinics in Silver City.
Dr. Bell completed his residency at William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso in 1971 and Dr. Dye completed his residency at Parkland in Dallas, Texas. In 1973 both doctors were interviewing for the same position at the Med Square Clinic. Med Square agreed to hire both of them. After two years with Med Square, they went on their own in 1975 establishing a clinic on Hudson Street. The newly formed practice was named Bell and Dye, MD and remained under that title for 6 years. Dr. James R. Skee joined their practice in 1981. Dr Skee completed his residency at Bellevue at New York University in 1979. The practice then became known as Bell, Dye and Skee.
On December 31, 1985 Drs. Bell, Dye and Skee moved to the newly completed building at 1600 E. 32nd Street. In 1990 they changed the clinic name to Silver Internal Medicine. In 1996 the Deming clinic was opened. In 2006 the practice changed from Silver Internal Medicine to Silver Health CARE, The Family Clinic was added in August and The Deming Clinic relocated to the newly constructed building at 1511 South Lime in November.
Silver Health CARE currently has 12 providers, including 5 internists, one podiatrist, an internist/pediatrician, two certified nurse practitioners, and three physician assistants. There are a total 48 operating staff at all of the locations.
In asking Dr. Bell what he missed about the way medicine was practiced in the past, his answer was that it was "a lot less complicated back then and back then we knew each other's patients". An office visit was $8.00!!! How times have changed.
